I'm working with some folks to get the maps and settings optimized. Let me know here if there's anything you'd specifically like to see on this, or any server.
I have not set up the admin mod on the new server yet, I'm looking into a vastly updated one, maybe I'll change them all over.

First, a farewell - Conan the Librarian has been a valuable member of GofW since its founding and a longtime owner, and was also a respected member of GofW's predecessor ECGN before that. Conan has decided to step down from being an owner for a while, and we'll miss him. Of course, we're kind of like Hotel California, so we expect him to be back at some point.

Good luck, Conan, and please don't be a stranger!

We don't often add to our ranks, but we believe that we have an excellent person that most closely embody the kinds of people we'd like to have running our community and that can take Conan's place. Either that, or he's done an excellent job fooling us (probably likely). Either way, we've already given him the keys to the place, so please don't blame the rest of us if GofW suddenly goes down the drain.

Seriously though, we're very pleased and honored to have him with us.

Our forums are long overdue for an overhaul.

The first step in this process is to upgrade to the newest version of the forum software. We have been holding off doing so for a very long time due to various technical issues that needed to be resolved.

However, we have worked through the vast majority of these issues and are ready to upgrade to the new software. One of these issues was that there was no data conversion path provided by Innovision (the forum software company) for our current forum software, since it is several versions behind. So, as part of this upgrade, we enslaved a programmer, locked him in the basement and did not release him again until he had written a custom data conversion for us.

In order to evaluate the results of the data conversion written by that lowly, untrustworthy creature, we ran it several weeks ago and populated a test forum with the results. Your Evil Overlords graciously got involved and looked over the results and surprisingly approved them. Oh yeah, some of the game admins helped too.

There are still a few minor issues that need to be addressed, but due to the increased flow of scum and villainy (ie. spammers), which the new software will help us better manage, your Evil Overlords have decided that we must move to the new software sooner rather than later.

That brings us to this moment!

Tonight is the night for the conversion; it will begin about 9 PM.

The site will be down for a while, perhaps 1 - 2 hours while the conversion is run and the results verified.

The site will be brought back up once the Evil Overlords' high standards have been satisfied.

Our very own TDwhite has been busy setting up our Battlefield 3 server and it looks ready to go!

To get started, join our official GofW platoon in battlelog, http://battlelog.bat...55240977255958/

Next, go to multiplayer -> server browswer then enter "Glory" as your filter text, select conquest large, punkbuster on, and ranked on. We should come up first in the list. We'd recommend you add the server to favorites to easily find it later.

Ok folks, it's back to school time and what better way to celebrate another year of institutionalized education than being surrounded in a life or death struggle with bloodthirsty zombies? I sure can't think of one.

To that end, we here at Glory of War will be giving away three copies of the new zombie shooter, Dead Island. Brains!

How do you win? Simply send us a picture of you, as depicted if you were actually in a zombie apocalypse. Would you be a survivor? a zombie? or a hapless corpse? Enquiring brains want to know.

Any image manipulation program will do, be it Photoshop, GIMP, or even Paint. Find what works for you and have at it!

Rules: One (1) copy of the PC version (via Steam) of Dead Island will be given away to the top entries in the following categories -

Best editing (aka mad photoshop skillz)
Funniest
Most Original

Entries will be considered for all three categories. Entrants are free to compose their submissions however they choose, however we do want to see an actual photo of you used in some way (even if it's modified).

Entries that are patently offensive (at our discretion) will be discarded. Nobody wants to see zombie penis.

Contest closes Friday, September 9th at Noon (EST). Winners will be announced within 24 hours.

So you say you like what Glory of War has to offer, only you wished our performance was better? Want more pep in our gigabytes? More pizzaz in our processors? Feel the need pixelated speed?

Well say no more, we've listened to your concerns and are on the case! Our crack team of ninja/pirate/tech-priest warriors just managed to procure a major upgrade for our operation, courtesy of our long-time provider, Defender Hosting. Actually they took one look at the age of our box and said, "Seven years? That may be fine for how long it took Savage to finish college, but these are computers we're talking about!"

As a result, we reconfigured the flux capacitor, optimized the Heisenberg compensators, and reloaded the self-sealing stem bolts magazine. All told, the new hardware should translate to an eight-fold increase in system performance. That means we'll be able to run your favourite game servers with ease, be they current hits like Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft, or hotly anticipated future releases like the upcoming Red Orchestra 2 (drops August 30 - with self-hosted RANKED servers!).

We're already hard at work transferring our existing assets over to the new box, in preparation for the big move on Monday. Please note, there will be some interruptions in our services at that time.

With any luck the process will be quick and painless, and by Monday night we'll all be fragging each other (and bragging about it on the forums), same as always...

Coinciding with the soon-to-be-released 'With Fire and Sword' stand-alone expansion, Glory of War is proud to announce we are now hosting our own dedicated Mount and Blade server! This 64-player multiplayer server features several different game modes, including castle sieges, Battlefield-style conquests, capture the flag and straight up deathmatch.

Best of all, the good folks at Taleworlds have seen fit to allow for excellent mod support, meaning no end to custom maps, and conversion mods. The possibilities are endless.

While we don't anticipate a ton of daily traffic on the server (at least not until the Fire and Sword drops), we will be using it for special Glory-run events and theme nights. In between, it will default to a siege map with bots - perfect for practicing your swordplay and crossbow aiming skills on. Requests to change the game mode are always welcome, just find Savage on TS or send him a PM.

If you don't have this game yet, might we suggest you take advantage of the excellent sale going on right now via Steam - the complete pack of Mount and Blade games (including the Fire and Sword preorder) for only $19.99! Excellent deal, but you'll have to hurry, as the sale ends Tuesday morning. For those who already own Warband, the new expansion pack preorder can be had for $13.49.

All three releases in the Mount and Blade series are stand alone.

You can submit more than one entry (though please don't just spam the thread - we're looking for quality, not quantity). One final note - no photoshopping is allowed, except to crop/resize. These should be screenshots of views/situations that can reasonably be achieved in-game without cheating.

A Christmas Poem

Twas the night before Christmas, and alone in the house
A gamer was playing, and using his mouse.
With deft hands he moved, and a good dash of flair
He dodged and he weaved and spun 'round in mid-air.

While others lay dreaming of presents galore
'Twas just another game night, at Glory of War.
With bullet and bomb, magic and sword,
These internet warriors slew nubs by the horde.

The teamspeak channels were all hopping with life,
as loudly they jeered all the snipers they'd knife.
One by one the old regs did begin to appear
To show off their skills and spread Christmas cheer.

Folic Acid stopped by, with his usual calm
'I wish I could play, but I've gone home to mom.'
Harry Canyon was there, luring kids to his van
'Free Candy' he cried, 'from a harmless old man!'

Then Bossman arrived, without much ado
'What's in here?' he asked, with nary a clue.
Brother Maynard logged on, from out in the wood
and schooled us all with the Spy, as only he could.

Xenius appeared, and called us all noobs
While Wairudo Enjin just played with his boobs.
And in the event any smacktards should call,
Colonel Savage stood ready, to banhammer them all.

Flamewave was there, with his usual hax
And murder most foul, from a man they called 'Axe.'
Each passing victory gave cause for a dance
But when something went wrong it was, 'Dammit Last Chance!'

And just when it seemed a huge sausage fest
Glory's girl gamers arrived, to show us their best.
Niene and Chu Chi, Az, Tyl and Slash
All came looking for trouble, and monsters to bash.

Lady Balrog swung by, with her clone trooper gear
But in that oversized helmet, found it quite hard to hear.
And as a scary reminder not to take jokes too far
Caboodle displayed her collection of men's nuts in a jar.

The Guild Wars crowd, being all silly and crude
took turns kicking from Teamspeak - Beans, DD and Poode.
When Sushi arrived, with his cute scraggly beard
We all knew for certain things were about to get weird.

The WoW gang meanwhile, gearing up for more raiding
complained about Tree nerfs, and mages worth hating.
Kurith and Fifty went looking for group,
While strange little Piggy made jokes about poop.

From nazis to zombies to dragons they slayed
There seemed just no end to the games people played.
The FPS players sat padding their stats,
Except Team Fortress 2, where they counted their hats.

Late into the night, the gamers did play
Until tired and worn they saw the first light of day.
'Egads,' they exclaimed, with sudden delight
'Santa's coming!' they shouted, and signed off for the night.

Swiftly and eagerly they crawled into to bed,
To await yet more gaming in the long days ahead.
The last thing they heard, as their eyelids did sag
Merry Christmas to all - now prepare to be fragged!

The submission guidelines are as follows:

1) A submission will consist of a haiku poem.
2) The topic will be "Worms" (take it as you wish).
3) One poem per person.
3a) You can post as many as you would like, but only one will be taken as your submission. Either mark which one you want as your submission, or we will take the first one you post.
4) Submissions close Wednesday at 10PM (EST). This will give the Owners time to vote and release the results on Thursday, release day.

The rules:
1) GofW member must be "tag" eligible, and have been around our community for a month or longer, and be active in the community.
2) Winners must promise to let GofW owners/administrators beat them mercilessly in any future versus matches. (just kidding...or are we?)
3) GofW owners are not eligible
4) For members that have already pre-ordered, you can still enter. If you win, you will have the chance to pass the winnings onto the member of your choice.

Three winners will be chosen. Here's your chance, submit your best!

I'm thinking about maybe teams of 4, round robin style elimination. If you have any input on this, or ideas on what kind of rules/setting you think would work well for it (Hard to say for sure what's available until the game comes out, but it's usually the same stuff) discuss it here.
